I can't believe this movie got such good reviews! It is almost as bad as <A Beautiful Mind> except it did not choose to ignore the main charactr's homosexuality and limitations. But other than that, Yuck! The director must have made it with such affection to get such a Hollywood movie out of such a controversial topic.
Or is it still too controversial that the director has to wrap everything up with sugar coat of true love? After all, 11 states just voted to ban same sex marriage. Obviously, 50 years later the public is still not as open as we think.
Oh well, think of it as a good educational film, a sugar coated pill for general public then. But it is far from being remembered as a true masterpiece, and probably forgotten as quickly as Fahrenheit 9/11.
And I totally lost my respect for a couple of movie critics.
Kinsey
Have you heard of Dr Kinsey's report "Sexual Behavior in the Human Male" and "Sexual Behavior in the Human Female" ? They practically redefined "Normal" and "Abnormal". Even now there are lots of disagreement around accuracy of those reports. But no matter what, they first shed lights on lots of issues. Some of them has become wildly known and accepted now. Some still remain very controversial.
The movie is limited release, only in some Art and Foreign movie theatres.
Kinsey is a zoologist who spent first half of life studying wasps, (wasp, What a curious coincidence! :) ) and studied human sexual behavior for the second half. Even though the object of observation changed, his method of study did not: Collect as much data as possible.
