:confused007:

I'm so addicted to this TV competition program Top Chef! It's as bad as watching Bourdain globe trotting. Ugh! I can't stop! It's self-torture.

I have a very dumb and ignorant question: Who is Eric Ripert and why is he so revered? The final 5 contestants consider him a god.

Yeah, even Anthony Bourdain considers him the best chef in New York. He said in his book Nasty Bits that Le Bernardin is the only restaurant he is willing to put on a tie and jacket for. And I think although Eric Ripert pops up here and there in the media, he is the most under-the-radar of the top-tier chefs. Bourdain admires him for not being a sellout, yet.

I don't know the fuss about Le Bernardin, except that the restaurant cooks fish to perfect, and of course, it has four stars. We should ask xiaoK if she has eaten there, is it really that good?

no I haven't. the place is $200 per person! And I really have not heard good things about it from anyone I know so I am not intrigued yet.

Speaking of someone who has been to Masa and Per se, why does $200pp warrant a exclamation mark? :-D

oh well... Both Masa and Per Se were new and quite the talk of the town for a while, so you get curious. Le Bernardin has been around too long to generate that buzz, so I never had the urge to pay twice to explore it.

Eric Ripert is going open up a restaurant in DC later this year. It's called westend bistro or cafe or something. It's going to be in the Ritz, I recall.
He looks so, eh, queer, is this just my impression or you gals feel the same/

For Cava:

Anthony Bourdain gets a lesson in a traditional Vietnamese lunch.
