Senator John McCain’s campaign manager was paid more than $30,000 a month for five years as president of an advocacy group set up by the mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to defend them against stricter regulations, current and former officials say.

Heard in class today. Just for fun.
Professor: In his own little world, Karel the robot is designed to do four things. Move forward, turn left, pick up a beeper, put down a beeper.
Student: What if it needs to turn right?
Professor: It doesn’t. I mean, it can’t.
Student: Why not?
Professor: Perhaps… it works for Obama?

I absolutely love Obama's response:
1.“This is exactly the time when the American people need to hear from the person who, in approximately 40 days, will be responsible for dealing with this mess,”
2“It is going to be part of the president’s job to deal with more than one thing at once.”

His nickname is McChicken now. He is trying so hard to avoid debate with Obama. Well, maybe to avoid interview/discussion with any intellectual people. He also canceled interview with David Letterman 1 hour before recording.
http://blogs.reuters.com/trail08/2008/0 ... ow-visit/

To me, he just crossed the threshold between political tactic and dirty tricks. Where has he been during the 26 years as senator? He has missed so many votes b/c his campaign, now all of a sudden, it's not about politics? Give me a break, you are running for president, not a reality show. :let_me_die:

Yes, this is why RNC is locking her in a freezer to prevent any real interaction with the press. Strict secrecy has worked for the current VP, so why not the next?

The self-appointed anti-corruption "reformer" from Alaska took $25K in gifts in 20 months of governorship alone --- and that is only what is on the books. She also billed the states for traveling expenses on days she was staying at home. She fired a state official who refused to fire her ex-brother-in-law and has refused to testify in the state legislature. All these tactics are straight from the same Republican playbook we have seen so much in the past 8 years.

This reality show is getting better and better.

http://newsweek.washingtonpost.com/onfa ... oblem.html
Palin's Pastor Problem

In the fine, new American tradition of presidential campaign "pastor disasters," Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin might have one she can call her very own, complete with its own sensational YouTube video and stunned cable TV commentary. You knew it was coming -- but probably didn't suspect it would involve witchcraft.

Back in the fall of 2005, when Palin was running for governor of Alaska, a Kenyan pastor named Thomas Muthee preached several times at Wasilla Assembly of God, Palin's church home for more than two decades. In one service, Palin joined Moothy onstage while he prayed for her.

"We say grace to be reigned upon her in the name of Jesus," Muthee prayed while Palin bowed her head. "We are asking you as the body of Christ in this valley make a way for Sarah even in the political arena . . . Bring finances her way even for the campaign in the name of Jesus . . . Give her men and women who will buck her up in the name of Jesus . . . Oh, Father, use her to turn this nation the other way around . . . "

So far, not that unusual. Intercessory public prayer is a common and often powerful form of encouragement and blessing in evangelical or Pentecostal settings, for politicians or anyone else. But Muthee goes on: "In the name of Jesus, in the name of Jesus, every form of witchcraft is what you rebuke. In the name of Jesus, in the name of Jesus, father make away now."

Turns out, Muthee began his ministry with a witch hunt against a Kenyan woman who he accused of causing car accidents through demonic spells, according to the Christian Science Monitor, which first reported the story in 1999. Muthee publicly declared the woman "a witch responsible for the town's ills, and order her to offer her up her soul for salvation or leave Kiambu . . . The woman fled."

This past June, in a speech at Wasilla AOG, Palin gave credit to Muthee for her 2006 election victory. In another now-famous YouTube video, Palin says, "As I was mayor and Pastor Muthee was here and he was praying over me . . . He said 'Lord make a way and let her do this next step.' And that's exactly what happened."

Not to be too cynical, but Palin isn't the first politician to use (however sincerely) the power of the pulpit to advance her own political career, and she won't be the last. George W. Bush did it. Barack Obama and John McCain do it. You'd be hard-pressed to find a successful politician who hasn't done it.

Can we forget the crazy preachers and try to get the candidates to focus on the serious problems?

我超喜欢The Daily Show和Colbert Report,他们又获得艾美奖了。

看看Sarah Palin 跟 Katie Couric 的采访对话,忽略不计语无伦次的胡话,很显然 McCain 喂给她的世界观就是这样的,Never second guess Israel,伊朗是bad guys,以色列是 good guys,美国 We get your back。
