I thought you said Jun is 真博学.

Ah another disappointment in life.
Knowing, how much did you pay for seeing Li Yi-yun at the book fest in NYC? Gore Vidal is coming to P&P next month. They charge $10 for entry. (I'm kicking myself for missing Neil Gaiman 2 weeks ago. Should have gone to see him.) At least seeing Richard Dawkin will be free.

I forgot, sth like $16 per person? It was book reading by Yiyun Li and Edwidge Danticat.
The way I look at it, you should always go when some event sounds good but a little too pricy. Because you will not think of $10 ever again afterwards, but the event you miss, you will kick yourself everytime sth reminds you of that.

For anything related to books, I'd happily spend money. I missed Neil Gaiman because of some lame get-together with people, which I should have turned down. Read a few of his short stories after that and was kind of impressed -- not falling over impressed as his fame seems to demand but then I'm not a fantasy reader. If you like somewhat odd, soft sci fi, semi fantasy but nothing epic, a bit whimsical and slightly sentimental, then I recommend you try his short story collections. The first story in his new collection, Fragile Things, is a spoof of Sherlock Holmes. Pretty intricate and authentic, and clever. Not exactly my cup of tea but still pretty cool.
Of course, I would pay $10 to see the good fossil Mr. Vidal, time permitting, but the person I really want to see in person is Mr. Clinton --- he, however, is entirely out of my price range.

Oh no, if Mr. Clinton is doing book signing anywhere I'd be willing to stand in line for up to 3 hours.

I would make time for him (or, rather, for my curiosity). But who knows when he will put out another book? I'd buy a book I would have no interest in reading just to observe him in person.
Hmm. I don't know if he did a book tour for his first and only autobiography. Hillary would not hesitate to use a ghost writer but rumor has it that the thousand pages in his book was ALL HIS! No ghost writer, and obviously no editor either.
I'm just curious how irresistable he is, having heard endless rumors about his fatal charm. But nowadays his charm is only used to buy his wife and his party candidates more campaign money at fundraising events.

Talking about which. Jimmy Carter came to give a talk a few weeks ago. Geee he is so old and such a complete diaster.
