Once my daughter received an envelope with a $20 bill in it at her birthday party. On the thank-you note, instead of the usual " Thank you for your necklace, it matches with all my outfits, I love it!", I wrote (for my daughter) something like:" Thank you for your gift, it matches with all my wishes, I love it!".花差花差小将军 wrote:Everytime such terrible things happen to me I always ask why could't they just give me cash

Honestly, I love cash. I have a Starbucks gift card stashed in my purse for god knows how long, never have the time, mood and right company to actually use it, too bad they don't serve alcohol.
I prefer gift than cash. But I am so picky about gift, my friends perfer to give me cash than gift.... To settle the difference I give out wishlist...but gifts on the list don't make me as happy as unexpected gifts....such is life.

I am very hard to impress (I learned) so people usually give me multiple gifts hoping I won't return them all. Usually I would like every one out of three. Some even have developed the habit of hiding some backup gifts in case I don't like any. That's why I say cash is the best, if you want to make it look better, give me Amex cash checks
I am just this shallow

This last summer when I was in China visiting my parents, my brother dragged me aside one day and said:"Since you're here, why don't we re-calculate the date by lunar calendar, round up the years and celebrate Mom' birthday tomorrow?" I was caught in surprise, so I stuffed the red envelope with all the Ben Franklin bills I had at that time. I'm lucky that giving cash suits traditional Chinese custom well.
Is this Moby Dick? Ah, drool. When I was working for the company in Bethesda, there's a Moby Dick across the street, which I visited a lot.
The yogurt soda is called Doogh. It's an acquired taste even for me. Kind of weird. Yogurt-y but not sweet with a lot of bubbles.
The rice is my vice. Cooked in oil and salt seasoned with saffron and served with a little butter. Ugh. Very fattening, but to me it's so addictive.
I don't know there's a difference between Persian and Iranian. As far as I know (mostly info from my previous coworker, an Iranian beauty) there isn't any difference.
The bread is nice too, but my teeth are weak and so I prefer the Indian naan. Chewy.
The stews are lengthy and labor intensive to make, which is why there's only 1 special a day. If this is indeed Moby Dick, you have to try their Thursday special (I know, I've eaten there way too many times) -- chichen marinated in lemon juice and saffron and baked to buttery tenderness. That's my favorite of their specials.
Of all the Iranian stews, my very favorite dish is Fessenjan. It's beef or chicken slowly cooked in a thick brown sauce made from ground pomegranate and walnut. Sooooo rich and fat. It's sweet, sour, nutty ... Yum... Unfortunately the only restaurant that I know that serves it recently closed down. Moby Dick does not sell it. The defunct restaurant used to have this mouth-watering roasted leg of lamb...
Like Indian buffet, I can't eat Iranian food too often. But the variety is somewhat limited.
