Anthony Bourdain in Beirut

昨晚看了这个节目,当时我在Washington Post online chat上面看到他刚回来时跟读者的对话,记忆犹新,感觉还很raw。很诧异他会把贝鲁特拍的footage稍微剪一剪就这么放出来了。

所有的No Reservation节目都给人一种身临其境的感觉,没多少花头,但是这一集尤其的真实感强烈,特别是剧组五六个人困在山上旅馆里等待撤离时那种焦躁和内疚("我们在上面,他们[当地居民]在下面")。这跟正宗的战地documentary完全不同,记录的是前者未曾留意的一张张普通人民的脸,出人意料的告白,humble and real。

躲在旅馆里等待时,Tony跑到厨房里给大家做饭,太合逻辑了。在精神压力下人自然地回到自己最熟悉最习惯的本色和事物,而且做饭和吃饭的确能起到缓解心情的作用。我不是厨师都有此类感受,洗碗就会让我平静下来。人的感情本来就是那么直接了当。

他没有对政治和世界形势大发议论,或许担心节目受舆论影响,也或许在人民群众里亲眼见过,知道一切的高谈阔论都是狗屁。Tony虽然是个典型的纽约知识分子,却不迂,也不自以为是,他的cynicism, arrogance都是薄薄一层表面, 底下没有。

大概害怕得罪外交部,他只是小小地批判了他们一下。到最后一段记录在Marine的船上出来时那些粗糙真实的画面,一张张年轻而松弛的脸,这是最感动让我的电视节目之一。我想它是不会得奖的,可是值得大家都看看。

哎都说黎巴嫩原是个好地方,食物也出色。

在这种情况下,他们能吃得下去吗?

I've seen this episode. It's an old one, last seaon or even could be prior to that. He described his experience in his book too.

Oh, so he had put out the episode immediately after he returned. Last season I was still in the semi-no-TV state... :sleeping:

Anthony Bourdain is probably the most talked about chef in fabvalley... Karen and I used to be obsessed with Rocco, wonder what he is doing now.

I've seen Rocco on one episode of Top Chef, I think...

我觉得不是害怕得罪谁。 这是Bourdain的好处,他很有自知之明。 交代完亲身精力后不会就此成为粒political pundit加activist, 而且他也很看不起那些actors-turned-activists。

Yeah, Bourdain did a whole article on Rocco. :mrgreen: He is apparently selling cookware with his mama on QVC and hosting a radio show directing little old ladies to where they can find kosher chicken. Not much sympathy spared there.
I also saw him on Top Chef, and is it just me, or does he look more humbled now?

CAVA,Edgware Road(就是Marble Arch后面那条大街)有很多中东餐馆,上次我和赌徒去了家小贝鲁特,好吃死了 :party003:

BERUT原来都说是小巴黎呢.唉.
我认识的以色列人都满世界旅游. 邻居孩子才三四岁, 各大陆都跑了许多遍了. 邻居说国家小, 要郊游都没啥四方去, 邻国都是敌人不安全, 只好满世界跑. 我们一起向往埃及.
