Shoot'em Up

I walked out of the movie theatre with a mixed feeling of guilty pleasure and repulse. It is too much violence and some unnecessary vulgarness even lots of humor could not save. Some of the lines, if anyone else has to deliver it, would be just awful. But Clive Owen is so hot/cool I ok with anything he says.

Even my pregnant girlfriend complaint "He should not have killed so many people for just pretecting one baby", and I was like "oh'they are all bad guys and professional killers, besides it's meant to be a parody."

Paul Giamatti was vicious and vicously hilarious. I don't know if this is intentionally but 5 minutes into the movie he cursed "F__k me sideways".

In the effort to keep the actions going none stop, director basicly made both characters sheer genius. They can always effortlessly find each other and start a new round of shooting. But I have to say, if you love action movie, this is a treat. Some action scenes are very original and creative. But does plot make sense? Nahhhhh.

Last but not least. The sex scene...hmm...well, if not for the violence it could have been good. After all, it is between Monica Bellucci and Clive Owen, and it is actually very hot. And by violence I don't mean kinky stuff.

aiya! xiao K you are torturing me.

The filmmaker sounds like a Taratino wannabe. I'm totally not into that comic book, boy fantasy stuff. But is a viciously hilarious Giamatti worth a peek? :speechless002:

Oh it will be totally worth your time, besides the film is short and sweet, only 80 min.
I like the Michael Davis's no-nonsense style. He came up with a series of original action scenes and he did only that, no stuffing, no garnish. I frowned a few times but I was not bored for a second.

Gosh, he's saving a baby AGAIN? We should coin him zee baby saver. And call Jodie Foster the baby hunter/seeker
BTW, has anyone seen 3:10 to Yuma?
OK I'd add this to my weekend plan then. I think I would like it.

Robert Ebert's Review
That I liked "Shoot 'em Up" is a consequence of a critical quirk I sometimes notice: I may disapprove of a movie for going too far, and yet have a sneaky regard for a movie that goes much, much farther than merely too far. This one goes so far, if you even want to get that far, you have to start half-way there, which means you have to be a connoisseur of the hard-boiled action genre and its serio-comic subdivision (or sub-basement).

But in a cute way
He also concluded: "Davis likes movies about men who will go to any lengths for a woman." I guess this very hidden romantic core value has saved the whole movie, at least for me. :love019: :love019: :dog001: :dog001: :rabbit001: :rabbit001:

OKOK I'll go and watch it. BTW, this morning I heard the movie review about Yuma, saying it's a terrific western movie, even better than Eastwood's Forgiven. A villain in the movie was especially well protrayed and Russell Crowe was very good in the movie. They say the ending is quite nice, you'll have to think for a while afte the movie ends and realize that there's probably no better way to end it like that.

I just want to see a mean and evil Paul Giamatti.

The high-profile movie this season seems to be David Cronenberg's "Eastern Promise" (Naomi Watts, Viggo Mortensen).
