约克郡追星记：失踪的阿婆

我要求去Harrogate的理由只有一个：阿加莎。很多年前看过一个纪录片，阿婆当年因为第一任丈夫有外遇离家出走，弃汽车于英国南部郊外后，搭火车往温泉疗养胜地Harrogate Spa，在天鹅水疗旅馆里化名住下。全国的警察翻天覆地地进行搜索活动，终于在十天后接到酒店员工的情报，找到了她。阿婆给出的解释是失忆。而她入住时登记用的，正是丈夫情人的姓Neele。
当时公众的反应不一。有人同情她那一年刚失去了母亲，知道克里斯蒂先生出轨的人大概不多。有人持怀疑态度，说她不过是为了制造新闻效应，无端浪费警力。还有人说她是有意制造谋害的假象，以陷害她丈夫。而她本人事后绝口不提这段经历。
门口挂着大广告：谋杀主题晚餐，谋杀主题周末。不由想起波洛的一个案子就是谋杀主题游园会上的真谋杀案。
在Harrogate住了两天后，觉得非常喜欢。这里并没有什么名胜古迹，总结下来：房屋漂亮，大片树木、绿地、公园，吃的选择丰富，个性商店多。原来我的口味已经和老太太差不多了
天鹅酒店在顶中心的地方，旁边是Spa pump room，和绵延的Valley Gardens。夏季的每个星期天都举行音乐会。
人人都知道Harrogate的Betty's茶室，已经开张90年。星期六的上午，门口是要排队的。

两年以后离婚了。第二次嫁的是比她小的考古学家，所以后来的小说里有考古主题出现，还有些以中东为背景。

这家茶室真是幽静漂亮，不过我怀疑点心都是中看不中吃的......

最早是瑞士人开的，应该还靠谱。某人排队买了一个菜花，就是最右边的那种，外面的那层绿色marzipan杏仁味很浓，可是极甜。配浓茶大概不错。我们当天刚吃完全英式早餐，所以只点了茶，旁边大家都在吃早餐，羊角面包什么的看起来不错。

我记得有一篇是考古学家被前妻抛弃之后，过很多年改变容貌又跟前妻结婚了，发现前妻又有要抛弃他的迹象，就把她给杀了。

嗯，这篇我看过，从一个护士的角度讲的。现在想想，也许阿婆塑造的美丽女主角有原型，看得出阿婆非常不喜欢她。

看上去块头大分量足，大概用的是真牛油。
阿婆的小说里面一向不是丈夫干的就是老婆干的，还写了好多奸情。

It might seem fishy, and both of his sisters-in-law were said to be totally devoted to him, but whether he had sex with either of them was unknown.
The Ellen Ternan affair was well known and a big scandal at the time.
Not to make excuses for him, but it is almost certain that Dickens had bipolar disorder. Obviously bipolar disorder does not a jerk make, but one of the symptoms is hypersexuality. Another common symptom is grandiosity.

他两个小姨子都是终生住在他家里照顾姐姐姐夫生活，我隐约记得狄更斯给找了个他老婆怎么不行的借口。虽说传统上未婚女性不适合独居，是跟着姐夫家住合适，他作为家长也没给张罗着找对象。

狄更斯跟老婆结婚没多久就厌烦，抱怨老婆老生孩子，但是也没耽误他连续跟生了十个。后转为喜欢小姨子。他跟俩小姨子有暧昧，第一个比老婆小没几岁，暧昧了没两年，十九岁淋雨生肺炎死在狄更斯怀里。第二个比较小，乔治奇娜一直替他管家，老婆跟狄更斯分居后就是她当家。前一个大概是精神恋爱，后一个反正死无对证。
著名的首饰送错门事件是给Ellen Ternan的首饰。狄更斯最垃圾的事情是外面都谣传他和艾伦有暧昧，他老婆跟他对质，他大骂老婆居然敢怀疑他和纯洁少女的纯洁友情，逼迫老婆上门给少女道歉。他老婆还乖乖去了。但我不记得是首饰事件之前还是之后。
这人干出什么事情来都不希奇。
Ellen Ternan也很牛，三十多装十八岁少女再嫁了一个比自己小十多岁的丈夫。
这俩的事情也一直没实际证据，大家传个八卦而已。结果前几年一批书信没舍得销毁爆光啦。不但的确有奸还生过个儿子，很小就死了。

我年初买了全套阿婆的小说。 发现很好看，以前很少会去读那些老的侦探小说［难道说明我老了？］。话语权当然厉害了，而且这种事被映射的当事人都没法争辩。只能哑巴吃黄连。阿婆还算厚道吧， 至少她是个受害者。就怕那种自己手头攥了一个，还能信口雌黄把一个没有干系的人说成是cheater的。 那才是极品。

我在英国玩都是心血来潮，因为地方不大，到哪里都停近的。古堡挺有特色，不过看两个就够了，都差不多。伦敦以外，首先推荐Edinburgh, Bath, Oxford, York。如果要想看乡村风景的话，湖区或者Cotswolds。其它的，就看你喜欢什么，自己编主题游好了，莎士比亚啦，福尔摩斯啦，哈利波特啦。

比起元稹之流，苏轼当然不算什么。
一方面对旧爱表现得情深似海，一方面急不可耐地寻找新欢，大概是中国文人的一大特色。
狄更斯无耻归无耻，大概也没有试图表现得对老婆深情款款吧。

On 28 July 1814, Shelley abandoned his pregnant wife and child when he ran away with Mary, also inviting her stepsister Jane (later Claire) Clairmont along for company. The three sailed to Europe, crossed France, and settled in Switzerland, an account of which was subsequently published by the Shelleys. After six weeks, homesick and destitute, the three young people returned to England.

我觉得把狄更斯跟胡兰成放到一块儿比，还是很侮辱狄更斯的。狄更斯可没有看哪个女人能在现时有用，就赶紧往上冲，始乱终弃完了晚年再得意洋洋列个群芳谱炫耀。嗯，慢，最后一条好像是中国男文人喜闻乐见的习俗，怪道我觉得胡兰成是个标准中国旧文人。

对了，最方便获得旅游信息的地方是地方上的tourist information office，地图、小册子应有尽有，有问题还可以直接问工作人员。现在他们都还有网站，google一下就好了。
