星期五进城碰个老朋友,到了约定地点伊还没有到。因为我把阿土仔扔幼儿园直接就进城了,乃四下张望寻觅星巴克,果然一条街以外就有,乃进去。柜台后面高挑小黑娘笑问:要啥?我很没文化的说:咖啡。她续问:多大?我更没文化的说:中杯。看看小黑板,貌似那个应该叫做格兰~得! :mrgreen:

我不喝咖啡,所以google一下才知道所谓的tall, grande和venti。非常之confusing,Grande难道不是大么?Venti是20?20盎司的咖啡,这得多大一杯?

再搜下去,原来这个话题在美国已经讨论过无数次了:

The official Starbucks size naming scheme mixes pretentious use of Italian, and lies. The correlation goes roughly like this:

"Tall", which in the context of a drink seems synonymous with "large",
"Grande", which of course is Italian for "big", and
"Venti", which means "twenty," which is the number of ounces.

Originally, in their "home town" of Seattle, they offered Short and Tall, but as tastes for their excellent coffee grew, they introduced Grande, and then Venti, and removed the original Short from the menu. I think Short is still available from under the counter, and used for things like to-go espresso.

In other words, the lowest advertised size denomination at Starbucks is referred to by a terminology that implies "large". They've shifted the scale completely up! There isn't even "medium" any longer! Surely the apocalypse is nigh...

国内还有卖short的。往饮料上喷一点奶油要另加5块钱。 :shock:

我小人之心的说,我怎么觉得这是给人一个说隔蓝得双香草拿铁加奶油而显示其人有文化而且舌头够利索的机会呢?

我是从SHORT-TALL开始喝的, 那时候还没STARBUCKS呢.
我觉得不是STARBUCKS开始的. 大概是SEATTLE习惯. STARBUCKS把咖啡美国快餐化通俗化了, 才把SIZE越做做大的. 我也很纳闷为什么现在看不到SHORT了.
我不是太喜欢STARBUCKS, 但是如果不是STARBUCKS, 我也不能随时随地找到LATTE和ESPRESSO,

澳大利亚新西兰的咖啡馆里, 也听说过short 和long的说法, 不过指的是浓度,不是 size. short 是espresso,long 是regular.

有时侯,还得小K碰到的法国小餐馆老板娘那种气场来发挥一下,给顾客太多选择看似很民主,但是做食物的人难道不知道那种食物搭配最好吗,非得问你要什么potato,肉做几分熟。有些餐馆不让挑酒,每道菜都给你配好了,是有信心的表现。星巴克及类似连锁店做的基本咖啡以外的咖啡,都应该叫coffee flavoured drinks,好象冰红茶只能算茶饮料,不能算是茶 - in my humble opinion.

欧洲同学就是不一样啊. 我们在美国吃的都是COCOA-FLAVORED CANDIES, 不是CHOCOLATE.

哦,对了,我还想起来件事儿,当时店里放了不知哪个版本的老鹰乐队的it is going to be a hearty tonight, 哇,听得我浑身鸡皮疙瘩都起来了,就跟dream girl里,白人盗唱黑人歌曲似的。
