<<On Paradise Drive>>

Cosmic Blonde vs. Cosmic Brunette
Americans: Bimbos of the World.
If God is omnipotent, omniscient, and good, why does He allow morons to succeed? One notices this phenomenon constantly; the most empty-headed, asinine individuals float helium-like ever higher into the firmament of success, from plum post to plum post, without ever demonstrating extraordinary talent, original intelligence or even a noteworthy grasp of the matters at hand.
...It is a cosmic screw-up in the Divine Plan. ...Vapidity is the one character flaw that comes with its own missle defense system. The vapid person by definition does not possess the mental wherewithal to be aware of his own vapidity. ... His conscience, like everything else about him, is clean.
Nine times out of ten, the universe is structured in such a way that he is never forced to come face-to-face with his true self. He is born to grace, grows up in the land of charm, is nurtured in the fraternity of self-confidence, floats up through the career of plush paneling, fund-raising networks, and golf resorts, rests in the paradise of garrullous companionship, and retires at long last to Aspen, where he finally dies of happiness. The reckoning never comes! The moment of truth is avoided. Moreover, he is untouchable by the likes of you.
The inescapable fact is that the universe is divided between Blondes and Brunettes. This is not a matter of the color of one's hair. This is a cosmic trait. The Cosmic Blonde floats through life on a beam of sunshine, from success to success. The cosmic Brunette obsesses and reflects, frets and fumes, turns inward, and clings to the view that the examined life is the only life worth living, despite all the evidence to the contrary. The Cosmic Brunette writes and reads books, worries, condemns and evaluates, judges, discerns and doubts. The Cosmic Blonde water-skis.
Cosmic Brunette
Cosmic Blonde!

Cosmic Brunette

Helen
Cosmic Blondes:1) Are they real? 2)What do they have that I don't?

I don't think 100% cosmic blonde is real. But the really important point is, as a cosmic brunette, is there any way you could become a cosmic blonde? The question you asked should be changed to: what do you have that they don't? Maybe that's what makes difference.
And maybe, what you have that they don't is what you know, by reading and thinking. The truth is, you cannot unknow what you know.

Can one change from a "blonde" to a "brunette"? Answer: Barring new technology in neurosurgery, NO. Trust me, I tried. :-P

What do they have that a "brunette" doesn't? Answer: A set of genes that allow them to think less and feel less intensely.

唐月 and 郭力军 are definitely Cosmic Blondes, you can tell from a mile away. 海兰 is a hopeless Cosmic Brunette. As to 小原, I don't know, I lost touch with her. :-P

Although Cosmic Blondes can be spotted all around the world, but America has an exceptionally high proportion of them. I secretly suspect this trait is partially genetic, partially cultivated.
The genetic part can be corrected by neurosurgery or gene therapy or whatever ( I believe the hype ), for the rest, one can learn or unlearn. So I haven't given up hope just yet.

The two cosmic blonde friends I have are Romanian and Iranian. I was even thinking that the Chinese may not be conditioned to be optimists, they sure are a hardy and practical bunch and generally don't bother themselves with etheral questions like feelings and self-inquisitions, etc.

I knew a Hispanic cosmic blonde, and she's just unbeatable.
And I happen to know a Chinese cosmic blonde. We started as colleagues, now she is a treasured friend of mine. In the last three years, she must have had five jobs--due to bad economic situation, corporate merges, company moving to Texas, etc. She called me up every time she lost her job, and told me in excitement about the generous severance package she got, her free time to travel, her free time in the summer to spend with her son, her chance to get a better job (which she did, every time). And she's not a Christian, it must be her cosmic blonde inner-self that lets her to be perpetually happy. Nothing, absolutely nothing can ruin her sunny mood, everything that ever happened to her is good, or lead to a better situation. I didn't know how she does it but I admire her a lot.

Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind...

But I finally am accepting myself as a cosmic brunette and appreciate the gift of being able to think a lot and feel deeply and intensely and understanding people like Maugham and Greene. Could be worse -- if I went any further on the happy--sad spectrum, I'd have a mood disorder, but now I stand on the cliff seeing the view without falling. Thank Heavens. I am grateful.

Helen, have you seen the movie "Adaptation"? The twin characters are the perfect examples of Comic Blone and Brunette. That movie is so clever and funny and fits your reflections perfectly.
