Mapbox的信（短）

收到Mapbox的信，关于他们加入反新总统的入境禁令的。下面添加一条，说他们已经在使用规则里明言禁止政府及机构用Mapbox数据与服务以性别种族性向宗教和国籍定位他们的用户。我在去年斯坦福的GIS Day听过几次Mapbox的讲座，讲话的人都很nerdy，有个女孩紧张到一边做瑜伽一边跟我们讲。他们掌握的用户数据很多，moral standard很高，说己方绝不会把用户数据用于不合他们理念的这般那般云云。然而我很悲观，数据大量流传出去，不是看门的公司有moral standard就足够的。蜘蛛侠那句话，在大数据时代也许应该改成，掌握的数据越多责任越大。

14年纽约客上有一篇文章叫THE SOLACE OF OBLIVION-In Europe, the right to be forgotten trumps the Internet. by Jeffrey Toobin,主要是解释为什么欧洲叫谷歌不得保存用户数据超过两年，"The Right to Forget"当时这个判决的名字。我本来对那个判决不以为然。大概和Elysee这里讲的那个小公司的员工感觉差不多，就是公司的道德标准够高不需要大家这么紧张。
但是看了这篇文章之后我就明白了。

in “Delete” he describes how, in the nineteen-thirties, the Dutch government maintained a comprehensive population registry, which included the name, address, and religion of every citizen. At the time, he writes, “the registry was hailed as facilitating government administration and improving welfare planning.” But when the Nazis invaded Holland they used the registry to track down Jews and Gypsies. “We may feel safe living in democratic republics, but so did the Dutch,” he said. “We do not know what the future holds in store for us, and whether future governments will honor the trust we put in them to protect information privacy rights.”

大选之后我头一个想到就是这文章，非常希望所有高科技公司都该读这个，然后立刻停止收集个人资料(PII - Personal Identification Information)因为政府是不可信的而且政府的权力是很大的。。。最安全的方法最负责的方法就是不收集这种资料。The rest are all wishful thinking.

我没有说公司道德标准高大家不需要紧张啊。我说我很悲观，因为我不相信光凭守门人的道德标准就能保护这些数据。实际上每天这些数据海量流出去是很危险的，总有一天被人拿到，或者早就被人拿到了，普通人人家不对付你而已。
你们每天用手机导航，用手机找饭馆，玩pokeman Go，时时刻刻都在泄漏自己的位置信息知道吗？
我问过一个苹果地图的pm，说google map已经做得那么好那么大的用户群，你们干嘛还坑哧吭哧在做，她直说为了拿用户数据，因为如果用的是google maps，用户在找路找poi等等的位置信息统统由google掌握。只有苹果有自己的地图他们才能掌握这部分用户数据。
我当时真是醍醐灌顶。
