Heirloom tomatoes are really "heirloom". Back in the midwest, everybody planted tomatoes in their backyard. For the heirloom verietals, Most people either order the seeds from a catalog or go to farmers market to pick up seedlings. But there are people who got seeds passed down to them from their grandmama, or a grand aunt. That's what foodies in the corn field brag about... It's really quaint.

o yeah, I totally agree, heirloom tomatoes are just the most beautiful thing in the summer to make a salad with. Hmmm..tomato season is finally here. Last week I got some heirloom from CSA. looking forward to this week's share! It is not a good year for tomatoes though. Last year by august we got so much tomato (4 or 5 pounds) every week for a few weeks, even I got sick of them and had to make sauce and save for later!
