Of course I went to Milford Sound. I saw seals and little crested penguins with yellow cheeks. Going to Dunedin today and hope to see another kind of penguins there. Now I wish I had done an overnight trip to Milford or Doubtful Sound.
Yesterday I did a very cheesy and touristy thing -- I went on a tour about LOTR.

We were driven from Queenstown to Glenorchy, Routeburn, and Paradise Valley and shown the locations where some LOTR scenes were shot. Ah... Even without the LOTR connections, they are spectacular. Once I come home, I'll have to rent the trilogy and watch them again to review the scenery.
The last two days suddenly got really cold in Queenstown. This morning the mountains across the lake are capped with snow, all glistening in the sunlight. The wind is crisp. Where else can you pay NZ$50/night (USD about 35) for a room at a hostel and have the view of lake and mountains fit for a queen?
I have mixed feelings about QT, because its reputation is true -- both beautiful (gosh I'm sick of using this word again and again) and touristy. Next time when I come to NZ, I'll definitely rent a car no matter how scared I am of driving on the left side, and do some farmstay. I feel I'm missing out on the more tranquil and intimate country and farm scene.
My friend and I find the trip to be both satisfying and frustrating, because we simply do not have the time to do even half the things we want to do, like walking the Routeburn and Milford Tracks and kayaking in the Tasman sea. We are not at all prepared for the abundant trekking opportunities, although my friend climbed Mt. Cook through the Ball Pass! She could not rave enough about the experience, as tough as it was.
