PBS has started a new Miss Marple series made probably recently. And this fall they are going to show the Sherlock Holmes series starring Rupert Everett. I think he looks a bit too effeminate for Holmes with all the make-up and eyeliners.
Funny thing about the MM series is that the director seems to be a Raymond Chandler fan. Throughout the first episode, he/she littered references to RC books. In one scene, MM is reading "The Simple Art of Murder" and in another there is a copy of "Farewell, My Lovely" on the desk. I suppose the director who made this quaint arm-chair mystery episode really wants to make a noir mystery. Too bad BBC doesn't adapt Chandler's stuff.
PBS Mystery series: Miss Marple, Holmes, etc. (CAVA in)
The Sherlock Holmes TV movie is obviously NOT based on an original Conan Doyle's story. "The Case of the Silk Stocking" or something like that. Rupert Everett does look quite like Holmes -- long, narrow face, slightly hooked nose, thin and muscular. But I just cannot stand the heavy make-up (is that mascara he's wearing? Ugh!)
In the 1st episode of MM, the guest star is Derek Jacobi.
