哇赛，一下子上来几个新手，似乎厉害得不得了。昨晚卢森堡的Muller (who?)把Andy Roddick第一轮就打下去了，他的ace比Roddick还多，反手比R还强，上网比R还有效。他连胜两盘后评论的Johnny Mac大嘴说M不可能保持这么高水平的打法，第三盘一定会掉下来。结果第三盘一点没掉，R不管怎么挣扎，M都有力地回击。
前天看到Richard Gasquet的马拉松拉锯战的结尾，他的发球和反手也厉害得很。看得我眼都花了。男单真是藏龙卧虎啊，这些人都是我过去没见过的。

3 tiebreaks!!!! Gosh, I was so nervous (and I wasn't even rooting for either Roddick or Muller) watching the tiebreaks that I almost passed out! Muller was unbelievable, matching Roddick blow for blow, bomb by bomb, hit by hit. Roddick's serves were good (that's why he held almost all his service games), but Muller was even better. And the number of shots ON THE LINE was, like, miraculous or something. He has lots of high quality heavy baseline shots.
I always say, the game is the game, all the other off-the-court stuff should be discussed separately from a player's talent and skills. But today I must admit I'm wrong, that in the case of James Blake, the off-the-court stuff gets mixed in with the on-the-court stuff after all.
The commentary has been repeating his stories for days, how he's overcome adversities, how he's clawed his ways out of the lowest point in his life, blah blah blah. Whatever. I thought, uh, good for him, he's got everyone's sympathy, but there is only one way for him to prove himself.
And he did. He beat the "It" kid of 2005, Rafa Nadal.
When he was 20, 21, Blake was considered the next big thing in American tennis. And he kept disappointing people. Over and over again. Potential is potential and will not matter a thing if you cannot deliver. Everyone knew what his problem was. The problem was all in his head. He had no confidence in himself. He had no patience. He had the talent but not the mental toughness. There was a fear in his eyes, and it was probably more of success than of failure.
This is total cheese, I kept thinking to myself while watching the game today. How all the adversities made him a stronger person, how they gave him an inner strength and calm. "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger." Blah blah blah. The crazy thing is: They seem to be coming true. The fear seemed to have left him.
To be fair, Nadal was probably rattled by the crowd's overwhelming support for Blake. And he was probably not prepared for the level of play from Blake. But I still find it utterly remarkable that Blake looked like a totally different person compared with himself 2 years ago. He was so mentally fragile. He had never been able to beat a top 10 player in a Slam. He had fallen apart when he was ahead and when he was behind. All the ordeals he had gone through seemed to have changed him indeed.
So here it is. My old, hardened, crusty heart strings can be tugged once in a while, too. He won my heart when he applauded a good play from his opponent and when he showed his emotions without being wrecked by them. And it doesn't hurt that he's ridiculously good-looking.

我还以为Blake 有可能going all the way呢。
Agassi打球不好看，但是他现在把那一把板斧练得炉火纯青，别人也拿他没办法，是典型的以精胜全的例子。他跟Federer正好相反。我佩服的是， 他打球非常的lean，一点“肥肉”也没有，就是说每一击都是集中全副精神打出最高水平，绝不偷懒涣散半秒钟。(当然也没这么夸张啦，不过的确不别人要专注一百倍。) 所以别人跟他打球很费神，时时刻刻要打起十二分精神，否则他马上抓住你的漏洞把你调得满场乱跑。给他开半条门缝他马上把你屋子都拆光了。
而最近Federer打球给人的印象就是一场球里80%时间都在走神，直到tie break或自己的break point的时候才集中注意力，不知道他脑子都跑哪儿去了。
最奇怪的是Lleyton Hewitt，真不知道他怎么曾经独步天下的，技术上真是要啥没啥，发球软绵绵的，击球也并非特别有力或落点特别刁，正反手无一特长，唯一就是能跑。

不过一切的一切，在federer面前，就统统是另外一回事了。

You think so? I thought the semi with Hewitt was pretty awful. Federer's backhand was horrible, riddled with errors. On the contrary, Hewitt's persistence kind of impressed me even though I'm not a fan of his. Considering his recent record, he fought hard and gave no hint of feeling discouraged. 典型的郭靖型的。3 federer还是无人能敌啊
