I love traveling alone. You get to see and feel the place and people with no distraction. Getting lost in a city like Florence is pure joy. Getting lost in Venice -- it's impossible (the island is too small). Getting lost in Paris -- that's a certainty, even if you weren't alone!
I don't like taking photos with myself in them. I like to take photos with my eyes behind the lense and my fingers on the button, so that I control the composition of the image and don't have to block the scenery with my face.
As for food, it's not easy to go wrong in Italy (I don't know anything about Paris, but I heard the middle eastern food is great there). Follow your nose, your eyes, your gut, and local recommendations. No need to consult a travel guidebook. Worst comes to worst, there's always gelato stores!

Prepare a travelling money pouch and hang it around your neck and hide it inside your clothes. On a piece of paper, write down your passport and credit card numbers and the telephone and address of the ambassy in the cities you go to, then put the paper in your luggage somewhere. Pick up a map and guide booklet at local tourism bureau, which always have info about police stations, etc.

Find a condom-dispensing machine!
Take as little cash with you as possible. Use credit card and bank ATM card. Wear comfortable shoes (NO high-heels!). Take lots and lots of film (or memory card). Don't carry too many fancy clothes or any valuable jewelry (you're traveling not showing off) or electronic gadget unless absolutely necessary. Travel light (you can always buy an umbrella or batteries or shoes there if necessary).
