[闲聊]你的Priority是什么

Post by 一灯 » 2006-03-24 17:50

大好的周末,不能回家,在办公室里耗着等老板电话会议结束. 闲扯几句.

八一八今天听来的horror story.

A top US law firm gave such an annual review to an associate: Your performance has been okay but not up to our standard. When you got weekend work assignment, you accomplished your task well. However, you did not show enough enthusiasm for weekend work. The top and only priority of an associate at this firm is - work. It’s not family, not friends, blah blah blah.

该associate不久离开了这家所. 真的有人会这么说吗? Sounds a little politically incorrect to me.

am i too jaded? i don't even see how that's politically incorrect for a firm to say. they're paying top dollars to get as much billable hours extracted out of their associates as possible. if the associate disagrees, he/she could leave the firm and attend to their non-work priorities.

some lawyer i know said that when her colleague went into premature labor, her boss called her at the hospital (as she was in labor) about her progess on some assignment. such is life...
Now that happy moment between the time the lie is told and when it is found out.

That may very well be what all partners at top firms have in mind. But it still seems a bit crass to say that aloud.

not just top firms, not just law firms...yes they don't say that aloud, they just use other words like 'commitment' or 'responsibility'...

这个老板很直白阿 :admir001:
老板付钱员工收取报酬付出工作,天经地义,无可厚非
温和程度就看是买方还是卖方市场了

I don't know why this has to be restated. My feeling is at top law firms this is pretty much expected. Partners dont' necessarily act pushy by themselves. They make it sounds like it is from the clients. And most time it is. If clients sends over sth 5 pm on Friday afternoon, and asks for the first draft Sunday at 3pm, what can the partner say? They can't say no to clients.

Though I am not working at a law firm and receive much much less pay, I did get phonecalls (more than once) asking me to do this this and this... the last word is 'i need to get these done and fax these drawings to official abc today!'
the only fu**ing thing in my mind is : if you need to hand in these today, then why do you call me this morning at 9:40 ?"
