Maxwell is very important. My father used to joke the whole fiber optics field was about solving Maxwell's equtions under some set of given condition. But that doesn't make Einstein's work less a breakthough. Same thing, Eistein refused to accept Niels Bohr's theory did not make his own work less imporant.
Science is very different from art in that sense. It can never be one person's work. It is lots of people's work accumulated over the years, and that doesn't make anyone's breakthrough less important. That's why Newton's laws is still considered important today.
