Here's the baby item list: (I updated according to my recent experience)
.. Baby Monitor (we bought a 2.4GHz uniden phone set from Costco and found it can be used as baby monitor)
.. Baby Wipe: it's very convenient, I bought from Costco (Kirkland Signature), make sure it's non-scented, no perfume
.. Receiving blanket: soft, wrapping the baby, can buy packs(4-5), now they have "swaddle blanket", much easier to wrap newborn.
.. Diaper: Newborn diaper, pampers are better than Huggies, we used a lot "newborn diapers", they are designed with cord care:)
.. Cotton ball: for cleaning baby's face
.. Bath Tub: you don't need it until the baby's cord drop off
.. Hooded Bath Towel: not necessarily to be Hooded, at least 2
.. Wash cloth: for clean baby's spitup, wipe hands, later for teeth brushing etc, at least 4.
.. Nail Clipper
.. Baby Wash, lotion, shampoo, oil, diaper rush cream (you don't need them for the first week or two, Mustela is a good brand but expensive, Aveeno is not bad. I think Costco sells Destin diaper rash cream very cheap. Now I tend to natural brands like Burt bees)
.. Cap,little mitten(prevent baby from scratching himself, you can also use socks) ,有些衣服是带手套的,就是袖口上缝块额外的patch,可以翻过去套住袖口。
.. socks
.. keepsake baby impression kit (Amazon $29.99,PotteryBarn Kids $39.99): 用石膏的,they are much better than the stamp one.
.. Carseat w/latch (I recommend Britax roundabout/marathon after three months or so, but you can buy a Graco infant carseat because baby outgrows it very fast)
.. Stroller (we first bought a Graco travel system, then found the stroller is too large and heavy, and the design is far worse than Peg Perego Venizia which can change handle direction and full recline position. It really worth the money (about $250-300))
.. a large boiling pot to boil bottles
.. Bottles (better prepare a couple even if you plan to breastfeed, be aware there are clear plastic bottles have BPA, go glass ones or plastic with BPA-free signs (Bornfree, Medela))
.. Baby Detergent (Dreft, ALL)
.. Baby thermometer ( require it to be fast and accurate, we buy the forehead one at Costco $29.99, but the Peds saying under-arm one is more accurate)
.. Baby Book ( "What to Expect the First Year" is a good one)
.. Nursing wear (if breastfeeding): nursing bra (2-4), shirt, cardigan, sleepwear with front open (2-4),Nursing Pillow (not necessary if you have enough pillows at home), Nursing pad(disposable and some washables)
.. baby swing: you can put her on it to get her sleep (our babies don't like it though)
.. diaper bag : many hospital have free ones to give you
.. thick blankets
.. nightlight
.. medicine dropper
.. comb, brush
.. Crib (we didn't buy one until ours are 4 months old, used a basinet instead)
.. Matress (We finally bought a Sealy Posturepedic cirb mattess from Sears)
.. Matress pad
.. Crib bedding set: sheet, bumping pad, comforter(depends on weather etc.), dust ruffle(for decoration)
.. Humidifier and/or heater: depends on local weather
.. Changing Table
.. Changing Pad
.. changing pad covers (4)
**about these changing table thing (36, 37, 38), we don't have them, changing her diapers anywhere:D**
.. Wipe warmer: not necessary
.. Sleeping gown(depends, may not be necessary)
.. Diaper Genie (no use if you can throw out the trash everyday or use cloth diapers)
.. Breast Pump (Medela In-Style)
.. Breastfeeding book ( depends, may not be necessary. I got something from the hostipal)
.. Baby Bouncer
.. Baby Gym
.. Music Mobile, we have two, one is TinyLove Symphony-In-Motion, another one is Sassy developmental.
.. Another two very important items are camera and camcorder.
For baby and kids, Digital SLR cameras are much much better than point-and-shoot)
